DAYTONA BEACH - The Volusia-Flagler area has seen a number of business rags-to-riches stories over the years, ventures begun in a spare bedroom, garage, or in the case of Hawaiian Tropic, the back of a pickup truck, that grew to become multimillion-dollar companies. Despite those successes, the area is not generally thought of as an entrepreneurial hotbed like places such as California's Silicon Valley or Boulder, Colorado.
DAYTONA BEACH - Jayson Meyer, founder and CEO of Synergy Billing, has been selected as the opening speaker for the first-ever Startup Weekend entrepreneurs event next month at EmbryRiddle Aeronautical University.
DAYTONA BEACH - Unemployment in Volusia and Flagler counties declined last month as area employers continued to add jobs. Volusia saw its jobless rate dip to 5.5 percent, down from 6.5 percent in September 2014 - the lowest since March 2008.
DAYTONA BEACH - The Florida Economic Gardening Institute on Nov. 5 will honor this year's top 50 "secondstage" companies in the state to watch for growth. For the first time ever, the list includes a company from Flagler County - Palm Coast-based Coastal Cloud - as well as Daytona Beach-based Synergy Billing, which is only the third Volusia County company to receive the honor since the institute, also known as GrowFL, began its annual recognition of "Florida Companies to Watch" in 2011.
